At the Y, we’re for Healthy Living. That means that in communities across the
nation, we’re a leading voice on health and well-being. With a Christian mission
focused on balancing spirit, mind and body, the Y brings families closer
together, encourages good health and fosters meaningful connections through
fitness, sports, fun and shared interests. Today, one in six children and adults
in Middle Tennessee and southern Kentucky are receiving the support, guidance
and resources they need to improve their health and thrive in all areas of life.
CONFRONTING A HEALTH CRISIS
Improving the health of our neighbors has perhaps never been more important. Too
many of our children and adults are struggling with obesity and chronic disease,
but at the YMCA of Middle Tennessee, we believe that when we join together to
improve our community’s health, incredible things are possible. We can:
•
Reduce the risk that more than 67% of our friends and neighbors will suffer a
painful or life-threatening medical condition such as cancer, heart attack or
stroke.
•
Avert a children’s health crisis that threatens to make the current generation
the first to lead shorter lives than their parents’ generation.
•
Save our state as much as $4 billion a year in preventable medical expenses.
•
Make thousands of people feel healthier, happier and live a longer, more
productive and independent life.
Perhaps no other nonprofit is better suited to help tackle today’s health crisis.
Because at the Y, we know well-being isn’t just about treadmills and six-pack
abs. We’ve always believed the key to well-being is helping the whole
person—spirit, mind and body. The programs and services we offer don’t just help
people take care of what’s on the outside. With prayer groups, affordable group
and individual counseling, strong social networks and more, the Y nurtures
what’s on the inside, too.
