Group Exercise Class Descriptions

Active Older Adult Classes

SilverSneakers® Muscular Strength & Range of Movement: Have fun and move to the music through a variety of exercises designed to increase muscular strength, range of movement and activities for daily living. Hand-held weights, elastic tubing with handles, and a SilverSneakers® ball are offered for resistance. A chair is used for seated and/or standing support.

SilverSneakers® Cardio Circuit: Combine fun with fitness to increase your cardiovascular and muscular endurance power with a standing circuit workout. Upper-body strength work with hand-held weights, elastic tubing with handles, and a SilverSneakers ball is alternated with non-impact aerobic choreography. A chair is offered for support, stretching, and relaxation exercises.

SilverSneakers® CardioFit: Get up and go with an aerobics class for you – safe, heart-healthy and gentle on the joints. The workout includes easy-to-follow low-impact movement, and upper-body strength, abdominal conditioning, stretching and relaxation exercises designed to energize your active lifestyle.

SilverSneakers® YogaStretch: YogaStretch will move your whole body through a complete series of seated and standing yoga poses. Chair support is offered to safely perform a variety of postures designed to increase flexibility, balance and range of movement. Restorative breathing exercises and final relaxation will promote stress reduction and mental clarity.

Zumba Gold: Enjoy all the fun of this Latin-based dance class in a format that's designed specifically for older adults.

SilverSplash®: Activate your aqua urge for variety! SilverSplash offers lots of fun shallow-water moves to improve agility, flexibility and cardiovascular endurance. No swimming ability is required, and a special SilverSneakers kickboard is used to develop strength, balance and coordination.

Senior Cardio Blast: Get your heart pumping with this senior-friendly cardio fitness class.



Cardio Classes

African Dance: Learn the traditions and history of African culture while enjoying an intense cardio dance workout. Live drums are used in the class.

Ballroom Dance: Learn swing, foxtrot, Latin, the waltz and more dance styles with the help of a professional and experienced ballroom instructor.

Beginner Ballet: Add grace, poise, strength and flexibility to your existing fitness routine while learning the basics of ballet. No experience necessary.

Belly Dance: This class combines Middle Eastern music and movement to give you a spirited cardio workout that isolates the muscles in your mid-section.

Les Mills BodyCombat™: Inspired by the martial arts and drawing from karate, boxing, taekwondo, tai chi and muay thai, you will strike, punch, kick and kata your way to superior cardio fitness. New releases are issued quarterly.

Cardio Blast: No choreography, please, just give me the drills! Using minimal equipment, you'll get your heart pumping while enjoying activities ranging from jump training, power walking, running and sprinting to stairs, sports drills, team games and more.

Cardio Kickbox: Kick up your cardiovascular endurance and improve your aerobic fitness with basic punches, blocks, and kicks. No equipment needed---just the eye of the tiger.

Cycling: Use a specialized stationary bike while you spin your way through hill climbs, sprints and other heart-racing challenges while burning up to 500 calories or more in a 40-minute session. Make plans to arrive early to set up your bike and get pointers on proper form and technique.

Dance Blast: Anything goes with this fusion of dance styles. Build on your dance skills while enjoying different choreography and dance styles including hip-hop, traditional aerobics, funk, jazz and more.

Dance It Out: This fun, energetic and beginner-friendly class helps you burn away the calories through easy-to-follow dance moves set to today's hottest music.

Double Step: This dynamic variation of traditional step aerobics uses two platforms to double your workout pleasure. Note: This is an advanced class.

Hooping: This class uses a weighted hoop anyone can use to build core strength, burn calories, add balance and flexibility while having some fun to boot. Give it a try!

Rowing: Row, row, row your way to a total-body workout.

Step Aerobics: Using the studio step, you'll move your way through several choreography combinations that will give your heart the cardio boost it needs to stay healthy and happy. Class complexity and intensity are dependent on the instructor, so check with your local Y to find the best fit for you.

Treadmill Trek: This cardio class uses treadmills and other equipment on the wellness floor to take you through a heart-racing workout that mixes periods of hard work with times to rest. While running is optional, it's not mandatory.

TurboKick®: This cardio kickboxing class incorporates upper-body punches, lower-body kicks, hip-hop and interval training all choreographed to energizing music that will get your heart pumping for the full hour.

Zumba®: This Latin-inspired dance class is an exhilarating, effective, easy-to-follow, fitness party that is moving millions of people toward improved health and happiness. Come see what all the excitement is about!



Circuit Training Classes

Bosu: Using a blue bouncy dome that resembles a Swiss ball cut in half, this class works your glutes, hips, thighs, upper body and mid-section while building your core strength and balance.

Boxing Circuit: Exercise like a heavyweight champ in this class that employs jump ropes, heavy bags, speed bags and other equipment to take you through reflex drills, coordination exercises, footwork, shadow boxing, jump training, and other boxing-inspired forms of cross-training. Equipment varies by class, so check with your local Y for more information.

Circuit Blast: Use a variety of equipment to move through a series of exercises designed to challenge both your heart and all major muscle groups with limited to no choreography.

Step/Sculpt: A fusion of two classic aerobic routines, this class combines step choreography and a variety of strength training equipment to give you the best of both worlds when it comes to boosting your heart rate and working your muscles.

Zumba® Toning: This innovative strength training program employs Latin-inspired Zumba dance moves and music with 2.5-pound toning sticks to help you build muscular endurance while enjoying a fun dance workout.
Will Power and Grace®: This class will keep you on your (bare) feet with a combination of yoga and other mind-body class postures with heart-pumping cardio moves and drills.



Mind and Body Classes

Ashtanga Yoga: Ashtanga is a traditional yoga practice involving fast-moving sequences in a predictable pattern with variations for different levels of difficulty. The class is ideal for yoga students looking for a more intense form of yoga exercise.

Basic Yoga: Get introduced to this ancient practice integrating body, mind and spirit by learning basic yoga poses from the ground up. If you are new to yoga, or would like a refresher, this class is for you.

Les Mills BodyFlow ™: Les Mills' BodyFlow class combines yoga, Tai Chi, Pilates to help build flexibility and strength while leaving you feeling centered and calm. Controlled breathing, concentration and a carefully structured series of stretches, moves and poses to music create a holistic workout that brings the body into a state of harmony and balance. Like all Less Mills class programs, a new class version is released every three months with new music and choreography.

Hot Yoga: This is a specialized practice using general yoga poses in a room heated to 90-plus degrees. The hot environment helps to cleanse the body of impurities, and can also help students to get into poses with greater ease. Some centers limit the size of this class and may charge extra in order to provide one-on-one instruction and attention.

Iyengar Yoga: Iyengar yoga is a traditional practice involving the extensive use of equipment like straps, blocks, bolsters and other tools. Instruction is very detailed and slow. This class is ideal for the detail-oriented student who enjoys a lot of coaching.

Kundalini Yoga: This traditional yoga practice that emphasizes breathing and specific sets of exercises that help us channel our inner energy through our chakras, or energy centers in the spine. Kundalini is great for all levels of students, especially those seeking a deeper spiritual experience.

Mat Pilates: Pilates is a method of exercise and physical movement designed to stretch, strengthen, and balance the body with an emphasis on strengthening the mid-section. Mat-based classes are taught using floor mats and may use a small amount of equipment depending on location.

Pilates Reformer: Pilates is a method of exercise and physical movement designed to stretch, strengthen and balance the body, with an emphasis on strengthening your mid-section. Reformer classes are taught on specialized equipment that typically requires one-on-one or small group coaching. Some participants can experience faster results more quickly using Reformer equipment compared to mat-based classes.

Restorative Yoga: Yoga is an ancient practice designed to integrate the body, mind and spirit. Restorative yoga is a gentle format designed to bring your body into its best balance, and is particularly useful for overall wellness purposes, injury recovery or to address a chronic health condition such as arthritis.

Stretch: Enjoy a full class of flexibility training. This class emphasizes proper form and function for better workouts as well as improved everyday living.

Synergetics: Synergetics motions trim and tone your body with no impact, no stress and no floor exercises. It's ideal for people of all ages with chronic back, knee, hip and muscle pain.

Tai Chi: Tai Chi is an ancient martial arts discipline that helps the student learn balance and coordination. This is also a great class for students with chronic conditions such as arthritis and joint or tissue inflammation, among others. Movements are slow and detailed and follow a predictable progression.

Vinyasa Yoga: Building on the poses learned in Basic Yoga, this practice is designed to start challenging you with a greater variety of pose variations and a faster moving sequence.

Yoga/Pilates Fusion: Get the best of both yoga and Pilates in this class that fuses both disciplines to help you improve your abs, back and other core muscle groups while increasing your overall strength and flexibility.

Yoga/Pilates/Sculpt Fusion: Enjoy all the mind and body benefits of yoga and Pilates while incorporating hand weights to provide an added muscular challenge.



Strength Training Classes

Abs Express: Improve the strength of your mid-section in a minimal amount of time with this 15-30-minute class. Instructors will help you train your abdominals and back, as well as all the other core muscles connected to your pelvis.

Balletone®: Balletone® is a strength training and flexibility class that combines classical ballet moves, Pilates and yoga to improve your posture, balance and core strength while lengthening and stretching your entire body.

Les Mills Body Pump®: This 60-minute barbell class provides a workout that will strengthen all your major muscle groups by using the best weight-room exercises, including squats, presses, lifts and curls. New versions of the class are released quarterly.

Just Weights: Like its name suggests, this class cuts the frills to provide you with the best a strength training workout can offer using barbells with weight plates, dumbbells and a bench.

Lower Body Sculpt: This class uses a variety of weights, barbells, tubes, bands and other equipment to train and strength your abs, legs and glutes.

Sculpt: A class packed full of a variety of different strength training exercises using weights, barbells, tubes, bands , resistance balls and even your own body weight.



Water Fitness

Ai Chi: Ai Chi, the water-based cousin of Tai Chi, can help regenerate and restore your mind and body while performing exercises in the water that can improve your range of motion, balance and mobility.

Aqua Zumba®: A water-based workout that integrates the Zumba formula and music into traditional aqua fitness.

Aquatic Arthritis: An exercise program designed specifically for people with arthritis that uses gentle activities to help increase joint flexibility and range of motion while maintaining muscle strength.

Arthritis H2O: Improve your flexibility and range of motion while reducing the pain of arthritis through gentle cardio and strength training exercises. Individuals recovering from an injury will also benefit from this supportive water class.

H2O Cardio: Get all the benefits of cardiovascular conditioning classes in the pool with less stress on the body and the same calorie burn!

H2O Circuit: This class provides a combination water workout that includes cardio conditioning and muscle strengthening exercises using various equipment along with the water's natural resistance.

Hydrorider: Spin your wheels in the water in this unique indoor cycling class in the pool. Perfect for all fitness levels, Hydrorider combines the best of cycling with the many benefits of exercising in the water.
