YOUTH DEVELOPMENT
PROGRAMS AND SERVICES • CHILDCARE
With so many demands on today's families and the increased focus on early
childhood development, families need all the support they can get to nurture
the potential of youth. That's why child care and early learning programs at
the Y focus on holistically nurturing child development by providing a safe
and healthy place to learn, develop healthy, trusting relationships and build
self-reliance in a nurturing environment that upholds the Y's values of caring,
honesty, respect and responsibility.
SUPERVISED CHILDREN’S ACTIVITIES
We provide supervised children’s activities to
give your child a safe place to learn, play and have fun while you use the Y.
Y-PLAY
More than just a safe place to look after your children while you work
out, our Y-Play service offers children ages 6 weeks to 6 years the chance to
get the most out of their own visit to the Y through playing, learning and
staying physically active.
Additional information
Y-Play is generally offered as a free service for members with dependents
ages 6 weeks to 6 years. Some centers may have different age requirements--
check with your center for their specific policies.
Children may stay at Y-Play for up to two hours per day and a
maximum of nine hours per week. Parents/guardians are the only adults
authorized to leave a child with Y-Play, and are required to remain on-site
at the Y during their child's visit. Only the parent or guardian who signs a
child into Y-Play may sign them out or pick them up.
Check with
your local Y for more information
about their specific Y-Play offerings and policies.
YOUTH ACTIVITY CENTERS
Our Youth Activity Centers
(formerly known as Hang Time) offer children age seven and older the chance to
enjoy supervised, structured after-school games and activities ranging from
homework help to games such as dodge ball, basketball, arts and crafts and board
games. Times and age requirements may vary, so it’s best to check with your
local Y about specific details about their Youth Activity Center offerings.
Preschool
Preschools are available through the Brentwood, Margaret Maddox and Northwest
Family YMCA. YMCA preschools are licensed by the state of Tennessee and facilitate
hands-on, age-appropriate learning experiences designed to capture and build on a
child's imagination and interest. The curriculum actively engages a child's reasoning,
creative thinking and social skills in a way that instills them with happiness and
self-confidence. YMCA preschool programs are offered year-round and run Monday through
Friday except for regular school holidays and occasional in-service days.
